The Fear of the Sun started in 2012 as a continuation of songwriting from Nicholas Tallichet and Harlan Butt. They formed the short-lived sludge metal project Grimer in 2008-2009. In 2012, they practiced writing songs again with Ben Scott of Terminator 2 and then more consistently with Cyrus Meyers of Dead to a Dying World who became the official drummer by the beginning of 2013.
